Rodin Museum Paris

For more than 50 years, Auguste Rodin was considered as the premiere French sculptor.  A dozen years later, a museum was built to honor the great artisan and this is the Rodin Museum in Paris, there is another museum located in Meudon, the former residence of Rodin.

Getting there:

Going by the Paris Metro System, get off at the Verenne Metro Station. There is a signpost outside which points to the direction of the museum. The museum is located in 77 Rue de Varenne.

The building

Aside from the lovely gardens and magnificent sculptures the building itself is another attraction. It used to be a big house built in the 18th century. The building is detached and is located in a sprawling three-acre garden. People do love to wander and stroll around the Rodin Museum’s gardens.  Some of Rodin’s sculptures are situated in the gardens.

Arts exhibitions

Most of the pieces inside the museum were made by Auguste Rodin, there are other pieces made by a contemporary of Rodin by the name of Camille Claudel. Other notable pieces located in the museum include The Hand of God, The Thinker and the Cathedral.

Museum Schedule:

During winter from October to March the museum opens from 9:45 am to 4:45 pm the garden closes at 5 pm. During summers from April to September, the museum opens at 9:45 am and closes at 5:45 pm the garden is closed an hour later.

Museum Tickets

The adult standard ticket to the Rodin Museum Paris is priced at around 6 Euros, a reduced ticket prices is at 4 Euros. For those who would just visit the garden, the ticket costs around one euro. For children and minors under 18 years old admission is free.

Inside the museum you can see the bronze and marble statues of Auguste Rodin, foremost French sculpture. There are works by contemporaries like Camille Claudel, Van Gogh, Monet and Renoir.

The museum is under the Public Administrative Establishment attached to the French Ministry of Culture. The Musee Rodin has its own charter and is equipped with a juridical personality. The museum has its own income and expenditures.

The museum receives around 500,000 or half a million visitors per year. Hence it has become the more famous French museums. Other famous museums include the Louvre, Versailles and the Musee d’ Orsay. Other lesser museums include the Picasso Museum and Orangerie.

The museum mirrors Rodin’s achievements in his field of interest. Although he is a multi-faceted artist who can excel in different media, it is in sculpture where he became famous. The southern part of the museum underwent renovation. The building in which Rodin’s masterpieces are kept also underwent remodeling. Many of the sofas and chairs came from Rodin. The Musee Rodin attempts to capture the charm of the bygone era where Rodin lived.
